Rickard Dahl's Blog: Bohusleden Walk #9: Kaserna-Svarteborg (Wednesday 20/09-17)

And now onto one of my favorite Bohusleden walks, the walk between Kaserna and Svarteborg. Bohusleden has many great parts so it's hard to say what the best parts of Bohusleden are but this is certainly one of my favorites. The walk is 25.5km in total, out of which 1.6km is required in the beginning to walk between the Pumpbron bus stop and the Bohusleden trail at Kaserna and 0.4km is required to walk from the Bohusleden trail at Svarteborg to the Svarteborg bus stop. Thus the part of the walk going on the Bohusleden trail itself is 23.5km (it includes Bohusleden stages 16 between Kaserna and Harska (11.5km) and 17 between Harska and Svarteborg (12km)).
To travel to the Pumpbron bus stop I first took bus 841 from Göteborg to Torp Terminalen. In Torp Terminalen I changed to bus 860 and traveled to Munkedal. In Munkedal I then changed to bus 835 to the Pumpbron bus stop. The travel time to Pumpbron was 2h24mins in total. To travel back from Svarteborg I first took bus 870 to Torp Terminalen and from there I took bus 841 to Göteborg. The travel time back was 2h20mins in total.
As I've mentioned above the walk is in total 25.5km. The total duration for the walk was 6h30mins. Thus my average speed was approximately 3.92km/h. This is a pretty fast average speed considering how many photos I take. The main reason for this average speed is that a large part of the walk goes on asphalt or gravel roads, for instance the first 1.6km from the Pumpbron bus stop and almost the entire stage 17 (except for about 2-3km in the beginning of the stage).
So why do I consider this walk to be among my favorites? Well, it's a combination of the two main parts of the walk. The first part of the walk (stage 16 and the first 2-3km of stage 17) has some pretty beautiful and dramatic terrains and goes mostly through forests (although there is some small scale farm land on the path also). This part follows Munkedalsälven, Örekilsälven and also includes the large lake Kärnsjön. The second part of the walk goes mostly on gravel roads through small and idyllic villages. This part of the walk also includes two small lakes: Heevattnet and Örevattnet. Moreover, the length of the walk is just about right. Usually when it's almost 30km or above 30km it feels a bit too long but around 20-28km is pretty good. There are lots of nice photos to show but before presenting them I will just mention a few other things briefly.
Firstly, the weather was pretty good. It was somewhat cold and windy but it was sunny for most of the day. It got cloudier near the end of the walk. Secondly, deer flies kept being a problem but I encountered fewer deer flies during this walk than during the previous Bohusleden walk #8 between Backamo and Glimmingen. Finally, I saw two deers during this walk.

This is an interesting part of the walk. It's quite humid and has a bit of a "jungle" feeling to it. Sharpened the photo slightly using unsharp mask.
